Production Roles - Miss Miller

Production roles are very important within the creating of a film for it to result in a success, one person cannot be in charge of everything as it would be chaotic for one person. People therefore need to be allocated specific roles when a creating a film to help within the production. The main roles which consist when creating a film are the Producers - this role consists of handling the setting and making sure everything is going to schedule, Directors - is one of the main and important role in creating a film as you direct the film of where and how everything needs to be stituated, the Actors - are the actors within the film - who make the film become realistic and enabling them to create a realtionship the audience, Camerman - this role consists of the person/people making sure that they film in the right angles producing an effective sequence, Music Producers - these people would make sure that the music goes with the scene shown to the audience making it effective for the audience, Screenplay Writers - create the narrative and make sure that the sequence is going in order, MES Co-ordinates - direct and are in charge of the make-up, costume, iconography etc, Editors is the final production role - this role consists of making the film perfect in position of everthing needs to fit together.

Within our group discussion we decided as a group who would be taking control and taking responsibilty on each part of the filming. We therfore decided this:

I am responsible for directing the film making sure that each shot is being taken correctly and that no faults are seen within the filming. Within my role I have taken part in many other tasks other than directing, I have also been the camera person as well as the MES Co-ordinators and editor. I am in control of making sure that the setting, costume, lighting, iconography and everything else that comes under the category of mise-en-scene - I tried to make it conventional to the thriller genre as much as possible making it easier for the audience to relate to the character within the frame. I have been allocated for these certain roles as we all believe that I can be responsible for each task making sure everything is correct before we start filming, also the use of camera angles are also seen to be vital within a thriller - as I believe that each camera shot/angle/movement create a specific meaning or mood to the audience, conveying a particular feeling or emotion.

Lucy is the second member of the group who was responsible of the screenplay narrative and also the MES Co-ordinators and editing this is because Lucy is believed to be responsible and making sure that she sets out her tasks correctly and making sure that she completes what she has to do on time in order for the filming. Lucy has been allocated to do this specific role as she believes that she is able to take responsibility for each task and will also enjoy her tasks within each role, also as we are doing most things in pairs we all are able to help each other.

James is control of the camera, music and editing roles, this is because we as a group believe that he will fit these tasks and come out within an excellent result. Music is seen as one of the key elements within a thriller, especially when trying to create a feeling, emotion, mood, theme or atmosphere for the audience. I would be joining James with having turns filming and also it would be best as if something does not work out, we both can come up with a solution. Also, all three of us would be taking part in the editing stage, this enables us as a group to make sure that everything that is being produced is liked by all of us. Additionally, if one of us are stuck we all will be able to help each other, allowing us to take responsibility, also as we all have other roles to take part in whoever is free can do editing as it will allow us to produce our thriller productively.

Furthermore by having specific roles in the filming and editing process it makes it much easier for us as a group to be more organised and prepared of what work needs to be done and by whom, this will allow us as a group to evaluate who is lacking and who needs support in their task that they are responsible for. Within our roles we all as a group are doing the editing part of the process, this allows our thriller to created and edited of how we want our thriller to be produced, making it as effective as it can be. This also gives a chance for all of us for our thoughts and ideas to shared and included.

In addition the main character is Reece, he is believed to be talented in his acting that will allow our thriller to be effective as possible, also as he fits our character requirements a young blonde male character. First our character was a young female, however we realised that breaking the codes and conventions will help draw the audience's attention further into our opening sequence. Harry is one of the minor characters which is seen to just be walking past the house to make it look like a living town, this allows the audience to relate to these everyday activities.

Overall, through the use of everyone's roles it has made it much easier for everyone to concentrate on a particular role, allowing our production to be the best as it can be, personally I believe that each person has allocated their role well. I believe that especially me and Lucy have taken a lot of time out to structure and plan for our filming, this allows us to be productive when filming as we would not be wasting time. I believe we all have played our part well, however it could of been even better if we as a group met up and discussed exactly how we as a group want it to come out as, and also if James took more part in the planning rather than just helping whilst we are producing our thriller.
