Planning Group Storyboard - Miss Miller

The purpose of a group storyboard is for the whole group to come up with a narrative and be able to put it down on paper how we as a group would interpret and produce our opening thriller sequence. For each individual element such as mise-en-scene and cinematography we as a group have included specific information of how we want each frame to be produced. We have created a storyboard as it would be helpful for us when filming, also we'll have an idea of how to produce each frame without it being time-consuming, as we only have a limited time to film. A storyboard helps guide us in the right direction, again making it easier for us to film.

For the beginning of the group storyboard we included James' ideas for the use of camera shots, lighting and narrative where we all decided his idea was good in creating an effective opening, and for most of our frames we all had similar shots and information that allowed us to decide on our storyboard quickly. For the rest of the storyboard me and Lucy came up and decided that what we're doing is good and that it will help our opening thriller to become a success. Moreover, through our group discussion we all realised that we all were inspired by many thriller films, but there was one film we all thought that inspired us particularly - which was Insidious. By watching clips of the film we found it helpful of how to use and plan our ideas from the filming, for example the use of silence used for one or two seconds creates a dramatic effect on the audience and grabs their attention immediately, helping to build suspense.

Throughout our discussion and making of our group storyboard we all included each others ideas successfully, this is because once we came up with the narrative we all had the same purpose of how we want to affect the audience and allow them to create a relationship with the victim within our thriller. Coincidentally, we as group all had the same intentions of how we want to create our opening thriller sequence and therefore we did not need to quarrel over who wanted there thought to be put into the storyboard as it was all basically similar. It made it much easier and faster for all of us to come up with a similar storyboard and intentions of how we want to portray our characters within the thriller. However, towards the end of the storyboard we as a group thought that it was not realistic for Lucy to fall down the stairs, we therefore decided to change the narrative at the end which we all believed to engage and create a relationship with the audience. 

Personally, I think that our final storyboard is good as it included many elements which are conventional to the thriller genre, I therefore believe we would create a successful sequence that would target our potential audience. I also think that the storyboard is well detailed and includes each specific shot that needs to be included in our thriller.

In conclusion, the use of planning a storyboard has helped me in preparing for my film. The use of each individual detail on each type of element, feature etc. has allowed me to realise the most important information of how I need to produce my thriller, taking key note on the lighting, mise-en-scene and furthermore. The colour within the frame is also important such as red connotes danger, I therefore want glimpses of red in the shots on the iconography for example - that does not stand out, but it is there for a hint of danger when it is closer to Lucy's death.
